The University of Illinois helped establish the Urbana-Champaign Big Broadband (UC2B) project, receiving over $22 million in funding through NTIA’s Broadband Technology Opportunity Program. However, the success of UC2B at the local level was supported by a number stakeholders representing public, private, and governmental institutions.
These partners have supported the initiation and development of UC2B, and fall within two categories:
- Community Anchor Institutions: Community Anchor Institutions (CAIs) are often comprised of schools, government buildings, libraries, and other public facilities. UC2B broadened the definition of a CAI to encompass any institution that could potentially serve a vulnerable population.
- UC2B Project Partners: These partners have provided local match funding to support the development and build-out of the UC2B broadband network.
